Simul @ b: Laboratory of 3D simulations for the development of digital teacher competence

EDU2013-42223-P

2014 - 2017

The challenges of the Knowledge Society need a teacher capable of integrating Information and Communication Technologies in the design of learning processes; But the most recent studies show deficiencies in teachers in practice and in training in the whole of the State in terms of their digital competence in teaching (a competence that integrates ICT in learning to make it more effective). From this context, the project Simul @ b: Laboratory of 3D simulations for the development of digital teacher competence (ref EDU2013-42223-P) proposes to design a virtual laboratory that is inserted in the training plans of the future teachers Aimed at ensuring the acquisition of its digital teaching competence. This virtual laboratory is part of the enormous educational possibilities of virtual worlds (3D simulation environments) and is guided by the principles of transformative pedagogy, which seeks high quality learning that involves a true transformation of the adult discent. Methodologically, the design process of this virtual laboratory will be guided by the principles of research for educational design (EDR), which after an initial design and foundation process will seek the validation of the laboratory taking into account different successive prototypes progressively more consistent , More practical and more effective.

Support programs

General objective

Design, implementation and evaluation of a 3D simulations laboratory for the development of the Digital Teaching Competence of Primary and Secondary Education teachers.

Specific objectives

O.1: To analyze the programs and processes of teacher training in terms of Digital Competence Teacher.

O.2: Conceptually delineate the basic concepts that articulate the project.

O.3: Design and / or adapt a technological environment to support the 3D laboratory for the acquisition of the Competition.

O4: Design and implement a training scenario based on simulations in a 3D virtual world to develop the Digital Teaching Competence of teachers of Primary and Secondary Education.

O5: Design and implement a process of evaluation of the Digital Teaching Competence acquired by the users of the laboratory.

O6: Apply and disseminate the results of the project both in the scientific-academic and in the environment.

The methodology selected for the present project, for its suitability and convenience, is Educational Design Research (EDR) or research based on Educational Design. This is understood as a systematic process of analysis, design, development and evaluation of an intervention (a training program, a product or a process) as a solution to a complex educational problem. It is necessary to overcome the practical deficit of research in educational technology, considering it more as a process than as a tool, and approaching its complexity from a systematic view and from the collaboration, generating values that guide its use for professionals.

We consider the EDR as a mixed and dynamic methodology, in which there are decisions already taken and others that are generated throughout the process. This justifies that there are methodological concretions that can not be decided and made explicit a priori. The EDR is not something between that qualitative and that quantitative and can not be defined by the methods it uses, but by the objective pursued: development of innovation grounded.
